Tuition help for Michigan students who have had Medicaid coverage for 24 months within a 36-month period between ages 9 and high school graduation. Phase I covers a certificate or associate degree program, and Phase II helps with a bachelor's degree afterward. The state identifies eligible students through its health department and notifies them, sometimes as early as age 12. You also file the FAFSA each year.
What you'll need to apply
- Be identified by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services as having Medicaid coverage for 24 months within a 36-month period between ages 9 and high school graduation
- Financial information: Current-year FAFSA, filed every year
- Proof of enrollment or acceptance: At least half time at a participating Michigan college, starting within four years of finishing high school, in a certificate or associate degree program for Phase I
- Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous year (a dependent student's FAFSA contributors too), and a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or approved refugee. You need a high school diploma or equivalent before age 20 (later for early or middle college and special education students). The state's page doesn't list award amounts
The sponsor's page only listed some of what's needed, so this list may be missing items and the effort score may be higher than the real work. Requirements can change each cycle. Confirm them on the sponsor's page before you apply.
