Your data, in plain English

What we keep

• With an account: your email, and whatever you choose to add to your profile, your tracked scholarships and notes, essays you store, and recommenders you list. Every profile question is optional.
• If you use the recommendation page: the names you type, and an email address only if you want us to email a recommender for you. We keep that a message was sent, not its text. The recommender can stop any more messages with one click.
• Without an account: scholarships you save stay in your own browser. They only reach us if you give an email for reminders or sign in.
• Everyone: a count of anonymous steps (looked at a scholarship, saved one, clicked through to apply) tied to a random code that disappears when you close the tab. No name, email or IP address, and it can't recognise you next time.

What we never do

• We don't sell your data or give it to scholarship sponsors.
• We don't send your email address or profile answers to advertisers. Google may show ads on our public pages using its own cookies; none of your profile reaches it.
• We never ask for a Social Security number, a bank account or a payment.
• We don't take a sponsor's money to change a scholarship's order or its effort score. How we check listings.

Take it with you, or delete it

Signed in, your profile page has two download buttons: everything we hold about you as one file, and the scholarships you track as a spreadsheet. The same page has a button that deletes your account and everything attached to it. It takes effect right away; we can't bring it back. Before it deletes, it asks why you are leaving and emails your answer, without your name or email address, to the person who runs the site.

If the site ever closes

Some scholarship tools have shut down and taken their students' drafts with them. If this site ever closes, we will email account holders ahead of time, with a link to download their data before it is deleted.
