This is a major cash prize, $75,000 in recent years though it's been as low as $60,000 in prior cycles, for a musical theater songwriter or songwriting team who hasn't broken through yet, honored at a Broadway reception. It's meant for lyricists and composers early in their careers, not performers.

What you'll need to apply

  • Portfolio or work samples: Up to four songs from musical theatre pieces, with typed lyrics and a dramatic context description
  • Essay: Why you are applying
  • Background statement on your musical theatre writing experience
