Georgia residents working toward a certificate or diploma at a technical college (or an approved program at a University System of Georgia school) get a per-credit-hour award toward tuition, for up to 15 hours a term. You don't need a particular high school GPA and you don't have to attend full time, but you need a 2.0 college GPA at set checkpoints, can't already hold a bachelor's degree, and the grant stops after 63 semester hours.

What you'll need to apply

  • Financial information: The FAFSA or the Georgia Student Finance Application (GSFAPP), renewed each year
  • Proof of enrollment or acceptance: A certificate or diploma program approved for HOPE at a Georgia technical college or eligible University System of Georgia school (full-time is not required)
  • Minimum GPA 2.0 (Postsecondary cumulative GPA at set checkpoints, to keep it)
  • Georgia legal resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, registered for Selective Service if required. Not available if you already hold a bachelor's degree, and it ends after 63 semester hours

Requirements can change each cycle. Confirm them on the sponsor's page before you apply.
