There's no application: Massachusetts students who rank in the top 25% of their district on the 10th-grade MCAS (Advanced on one of the English, math and science tests and Proficient on the other two, at set scores) are notified in the fall of senior year. The scholarship waives tuition, but not fees or room and board, at Massachusetts public colleges for up to eight semesters. You tell your college's financial aid office and file the FAFSA.

What you'll need to apply

  • Qualify automatically through your 10th-grade MCAS: top 25% in your district, with Advanced on one test and Proficient on the other two (first attempt only)
  • After you are notified, give your award letter to the financial aid office of the Massachusetts public college you attend and file the FAFSA
  • Covers tuition only at Massachusetts public colleges, for up to eight semesters, and you have to use it within six years of graduating. Check the state's page for the current renewal GPA

The sponsor's page only listed some of what's needed, so this list may be missing items and the effort score may be higher than the real work. Requirements can change each cycle. Confirm them on the sponsor's page before you apply.
