A last-dollar scholarship that covers tuition, required fees, books and materials left after your other aid, for Kansas residents in specified high-demand two-year degree and certificate programs at Kansas community colleges, technical colleges, Washburn Tech and some private schools. It has a lifetime limit of 68 credit hours or $20,000, and in return you agree to live and work in Kansas for two years after you finish. Awards are first come, first served and the application can close early when the money runs out.

What you'll need to apply

  • Online Kansas Promise Scholarship application at sfa.kansasregents.org, and a signed Kansas Promise Scholarship Agreement (live and work in Kansas for two consecutive years after you graduate)
  • Financial information: FAFSA, with a household income of $100,000 or less for a family of one or two, $150,000 or less for three, and $150,000 plus $4,800 for each additional person for larger families
  • Proof of enrollment or acceptance: At least 6 hours a semester in a Promise-eligible two-year degree or certificate program at an eligible Kansas school, finished within 36 months of your first award
  • Kansas resident who is a U.S. citizen (the page says citizens, so permanent residents may not qualify) and graduated from a Kansas high school within the last 12 months, or meets one of the other listed paths. Bachelor's degrees don't qualify. Lifetime limit of 68 credit hours or $20,000, and the amount is set by your college from your cost and other aid

Requirements can change each cycle. Confirm them on the sponsor's page before you apply.
