College students in their second year or later with financial need can get $5,000 to $15,000 a year that grows by $1,000 each year. The award renews for up to three more years or until you earn your first bachelor's degree.

What you'll need to apply

  • Essay: Personal statement about your goals and the barriers you have overcome
  • Financial information: Financial need analysis and your family's tax return
  • Transcript
  • Community service, leadership and work experience information
  • 1 recommendation letter: Required only if you are chosen as a semifinalist
  • Proof of citizenship
  • Must be a college student in your second year or later, working on your first associate's or bachelor's degree
