Is Scholarship Tracker safe for students?
Many districts review a website before counselors can recommend it, and counselors already teach students the warning signs of a scholarship scam. This page answers those questions in the order they usually come up. It describes the site as it works today, and the privacy policy is the one that counts if the two ever differ. Last updated October 28, 2026.
Does it cost anything, now or later?
No. Browsing, the counselor tools and student accounts are free. There is no paid tier and no fee to apply to anything we list.
Does it ask for a card, bank account, Social Security number or FSA ID?
Never. We don't take payment and we don't handle applications, so we never see essays, transcripts or other documents students send to a sponsor.
Does a student need an account?
No. Students can search and save scholarships without one, and saved items stay in their own browser. The counselor tools on this site don't need an account at all. Accounts are optional, for email reminders and a saved profile, and the terms require students to be at least 13, with a parent's permission under 18.
What do the counselor tools collect?
Nothing about a student. What you enter in the finder or the handout (a school name, a state, a graduation year) stays in the address of your own browser. We don't store it and we don't ask for a name.
Can a sponsor pay to be ranked higher?
No. We don't take a sponsor's money to change a listing's place or its effort score.
Are there ads?
Not on the counselor pages. Google ads appear on some public student pages, such as scholarship listings and guides, and never on sign-in, account or form pages. Google may use its own cookies on those pages. We don't give advertisers a student's email or profile answers. A Google Ads tag, which measures how our own advertising performs, loads across the site, and we use Vercel's cookie-free traffic statistics. The privacy policy lists all of it.
Is the information checked?
Each listing is checked against the sponsor's own page and shows the date it was last checked. When we couldn't reach that page, the listing says so in plain words. The counselor finder shows the same note, and the spreadsheet export has a column for it.
Who runs it, and how do I reach them?
A high school student in Georgia, Vincent Elliott (class of 2027), runs it, and a real person reads every message. Use the contact page for questions, a broken link or a wrong deadline.
What we haven't done
- We haven't signed a district data privacy agreement or been through a district's approval process. If yours has one for a tool that collects no student information, tell us what it needs.
- We aim to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility guidelines. On October 28, 2026 we ran an automated check (the axe tool) on every counselor page and it found no A or AA problems. Automated tools catch only part of what can go wrong, and we haven't had a person test with a screen reader or an independent audit. If something doesn't work with a screen reader or a keyboard, tell us and we'll fix it.
- We can't promise that every listing is perfect. Deadlines and rules change, which is why each one links to the sponsor and carries a check date.
