Emerging theater, dance, or film artists early in their careers can receive a $15,000 unrestricted cash grant (there's also a separate $10,000 Artist Fellowship that comes with coaching). Except for playwrights, who can self-nominate through New Dramatists, everyone else needs to be nominated by a school department chair, dean, or company artistic director. It's not something you can just apply for on your own.

What you'll need to apply

  • Nomination required: From an eligible institution, organization or past winner
  • Resume or activities list: CV with relevant experience and dates
  • 2 recommendation letters: Nominator letter (650 words), plus a second letter in round 2
  • Essay (about 650 words): Artist statement, or a video up to 3 minutes
  • Portfolio or work samples: Round 1: one 2-minute work sample; Round 2: up to three samples
  • Essay (about 650 words): Creative process statement (round 2)
