A need-based grant for Tennessee undergraduates who file the FAFSA with a Student Aid Index of 5,000 or less. It pays up to $4,000 a year at private four-year and two-year schools and up to $2,000 a year at public colleges, TCATs and private career schools. You apply by filing the FAFSA by April 1 (soon after October 1 for priority), and awards depend on available funds.

What you'll need to apply

  • Financial information: FAFSA by April 1 with a Student Aid Index of 5,000 or less, listing an eligible Tennessee college as your first choice
  • Proof of enrollment or acceptance: At least half time at an eligible Tennessee college, without a bachelor's degree
  • Tennessee resident (a dependent student's parents must be too), not in default on a loan or owing a refund on a grant. Renew by filing the FAFSA by April 1, for up to 8 semesters in a four-year program
